The True Endgame

The True Endgame

by Ace Arriande

Warning This fiction contains:
  • Profanity
  • Sexual Content

What defines endgame content? Is it raiding epic dungeons to take down the strongest bosses there are, or is it facing off against other players to climb the ladder and become the top PvPer? Is endgame content gathering materials and crafting the strongest and most exotic equipment that there is, or is it all about playing the market and amassing more wealth than everybody else? Some people even argue that fashion and minigames are endgame content!

Ryouta has already done all of that. Having spent most of his life playing MMO after MMO, he now finds himself wanting to live a virtual life that is far more relaxed and casual than what he is known for.

To Ryouta, the true endgame is fishing.

I was once called the "Unashamed King of Weeb Trash" when I first started posting here, so I guess that's my title.

My highest rated fiction that I had to drop.

I am conflicted about this fiction.

The style is great, I could read for days without it getting exausting. The conversations feel natural and the descriptions are just right, giving enough information to kickstart your imagination, but not so much as to become boring.

The grammar is great too, I haven't noticed a single mistake (though I haven't been looking for them either).

The story was unfortunatly ruind for me by vol. 2. The amounts for drama in it made me expect more of it for the rest of the story and that took away the from enjoyment of the slice of life elements that followed.

However what finally drove me away was the character development. The characters were really good (exept the MC, he is just your avarage harem protagonist with a hint more awerness), but they developed in a way I just don't enjoy. By the end of vol. 4 there wasn't a single character I enjoy left so I had to drop it.

One last thing:

Spoiler: Spoiler

So far I have read it until vol 2 pt 42. So I am not quite as far as I could be.

TLDR: If you dont mind characters with the same depth of your average shounen harem anime, go for it. Else, you will find the characters to be fairly annoyingly one-dimensional.

But as I dont know if I will continue, I think I will write a review now.

Grammar and style are fine. Why he has to do this stupid titeling with patches, volumes and parts that seem to randomly change is beyond me, but sure. I recommend just fucking chapters tho, maybe volumes but thats not needed with online novels...

The story itself is fine so far. It has some holes here and there, but the development makes kind of sense and ive seen worse. Very average, but it gets fucked by the next point.

The characters are horrible. Not as in I dont like them, just... I dont think they are intentionally horrible. The MC has a massive saviour complex and has that typtical heroic anime bullshit character. He is just not as dense regarding romance. I cant quite decide if the MC is VERY well written or the author just projects his own stuff onto the MC. Looking at the sometimes naive views on the world and especially girls, it feels like its rather the latter.

Other characters are barely better. They are very one dimensional and sometimes arbitrary. The only character who has a little bit of depth is the deaf one... Else they just have one "theme" and are nothing beyond that. The gay pervert? Says nothing except perverted shit and is sassy. Oh and he has the practical skill of... being a strategist? Just like MC? Then there is silent russian guy who doesnt say shit and is violent - and one second is liked, then hated, then liked again. Very little happens inbetween. Hardly any development here, even tho there should be. So far there are only two official girls, and author insisted on making one of them a classical tsundere. Thats not how any real girl behaves. The other one is pretty nice, idk why that one had to be fucked up with stupid anime clichees. All in all, anime references are funny, but actually using anime stereotypes in your story is usually a bad idea, they are mostly stupid.

All in all a nice story, but there seems to be zero understanding about how the psyche works. I was looking at reviews if it was gonna get better and maybe that saviour complex stuff (which annoys me the most tbh - I hate nothing more than irrationally crying "it has to be that way" because of feelings when reality is different) was gonna be part of slow character development, but it seems that mostly the harem is just gonna grow because ofc women like that wimp, just like in animes.

the story so far is very good, have good "real realistic" of LITRPG  here that do point out right of certain problem that would happen in real life if you use them ,and also have a very realistic mechanic in game that not your usual "blue table" or stats thing in game ,so far haven't see any error grammar, for character, like CPASSMORE say ,quite cliche but in good way,and author put great detail about his novel unlike other new novel

the only weakest point of this author is he struggle a lot with detailed combat scenes (which still done good about it for now) ,Any and all feedback/critique regarding the fight scenes is greatly appreciated to help him

may edit more in later chapter  (damn tittle limit)

A wonderful story, for the open minded and otaku.

Reviewed at: [Vol 1. pt. 46] Patch 8.0: How to Train Your Crew

Firstly, regarding low reviews, most of what I read from them stems from straight up prejudice against otaku culture and all that it representes, many rating the story low because of their illogical hatred for a troupe that is extremely well written in this story.

This is a wonderful and very fun read, if you are extremely prejudiced against otaku content such as many reviewers on this site are, maybe choose something different, however if you are open minded, you are going to have a lot of fun reading this, it's awesome and is definetely worth the time. True endgame is blast.

Just finished reading Volume 4 Chapter 40 now and I have to admit that I totally love the story, even if there are some changes that I’m not the biggest fan of. But let’s start with the good stuff;

You definitely get unique characters and great character development. I am a huge fan of the gay guy, he is just dam funny, a GREAT real live friend for the MC and in general just an interesting character. I also kinda liked the Russian guy, but I’m totally fine how it worked out at the end. I just can’t imagine how he would have fit in the story development and I still think he may appear later. But the thing I wanna talk about the most is the romance and harem part. At the moment there are five characters (beside the MC) that are important for the Harem.

Serra is the first girl who joined him, she was the cute and innocent girl at the beginning but over the time she made some HUGE changes. As it started I really liked it, because she was still this innocent thing sometimes but still stood up for all her pervert wishes and ideas. Really loved this “split” and she’s a very important part for the harem development in general. But sadly it got a bit “to much” lately. At the point she only acts like an old pervert and has lost this “cute” side to her. I’m really sad about this extreme development; it really feels like something got lost there. In general it feels like the author wanna get a bit more pervert characters, since the MC is getting there a bit as well. I still really like him for being so carful and worrying about the feelings of his girls, but was pretty pissed about him grabbing the boobs of Azablabulia whyle “first” kissing… he would have never done something like that before and it’s just not fitting. I really hope this development won’t continue, there are enough novels with pervert MC’s/characters out there.

The second girl who joined was Cass, she was a strait up tsun at the beginning, but with the 3 book she made a pretty big change as well. But compared to Serra the author didn’t go too far there. She actually talked about her feelings that she knows that she may hurt others with her tsun side and that she wanna change a bit. And all this made her sooo much lovelier! It did go so far, that she is one of my favourites at the moment!

Third was Nell/Alice and with all her drama loving fantasies she’s pretty fun. At the beginning I wasn’t such a huge fan because all her fantasies about being raped by others… but I was really happy about those scenes were she spoke very clearly about her real feelings. That she don’t wanna be imprisoned, that she loves some drama but that she has clear wishes and dreams as well and that she truly loves the MC and all those fantasies aren’t really what she wishes if he isn’t included.

Then we have his childhood friend. She was mentioned several times before and suddenly joined the story. At the beginning it felt kinda strange, but I have to admit that she was one of the most realistic things in this story so far. That’s one of the reasons why I’m still really sad about her story. But I have full trust, that she will get a happy end with the MC as well. So, since I believe in the author I’m happy that he treated her so realistic and that she didn’t just joined the harem.

The newest character is Azalabulia, at the moment I’m not such a big fan of her. She is definitely fun, but it feels a bit like she only wanna join him because she fears that this would be her last chance to get any men… is she can’t get him she can’t get anyone so… she just takes him. But I guess this will get better later on and is just my first image of her.

Regarding him harem in general; It’s amazing how “good” this whole thing feels. It’s not like you have one guy and all the other girls just fall for him and he don’t really gives a shit about. Nope, he cares about everyone; he is really carful about the feelings of his girlfriends and about other girls who may join this relationship. But the best thing is that he is not the absolute center of the harem. It still feels like he IS the center, but the girls love each other as well and they have a dynamic even without him being around, and that just feels right. As I said, recently Serra feels a bit too perverted-old-man like, and this kinda destroys this great feeling there. But it’s still there. And thanks to that you have the feeling, that the harem cool actually be realistic like that. Also, there are some great romantic moments between the MC and the girls. Great moments with all of them at the same time, as well as moments with only one or two girls. Especial the first, long real live part was just amazing, after Alice arrived in his town. There was such a huge focus on their relationship and them spending time together (dinner, watching tv, sleeping aso). There was another long real-live part later but sadly that one wasn’t as great as the first. There was just less focus on the relationship by itself instead of just stuff that comes along. They moved, he complained a lot about neighbours and pain, they got ferrets, they talk a LOT about children… yes, that’s all part of real-live, but it’s not this sugar sweet stuff that I hoped for. I just wish for some more romance and sweetness between them, without any distraction like children or ferrets… they know each other only for a month ^^ I don’t need anything else for the moment. Sometimes you get the feeling instead, that you missed something in real-live. The characters sometimes start talking about things that you never heard of in the story and you wonder when that happened. E.g. V4 C47 when Serra quite calm talking about loving his taste when swallowing, but the only rl sexual interaction I can think of was in the bath quite some time ago) It just feels unpleasant that you think you missed something. Same goes for the time passing; it’s kinda hard to keep track of the time, since they are different in game and in real-live, but there is just no effort to help the reader to stay on track, sometimes it gets even more confusing if you “know” that only one week passed ingame, but the MC suddenly speaks about “a month” has passed.

So in short: I love this novel! The characters and the character development are amazing and there are soo many cute and romantic moments where I just wanna puke sugar (that’s definitely good!!). The Harem feels great, unique and kind of realistic and the story is still interesting even if it’s relatively slow (that’s also a good thing!). The real-live moments are great, but I hope they focus more or the ppl again in the future and not so much about other stuff (like pets, children, or back pain). And lastly I hope this story won’t turn into a “pervert’s dream” story with the development of the MC and Serra. But I just trust the author there, that he won’t go in this direction ^^ And then I will continue to love this story and hope for many many more books =D

Honestly I would give the story 4,5 out of 5. Full 5 votes for the first 1-2 books, a bit less for book 3+4 because of those things that I mentioned above, but since I trust and hope that it won’t change too much in the future and maybe even get back a bit I’m going for full 5 stars, because I just see soo much potential in this story and really looking forward to every single chapter =)

Honestly I gave it a go because it was long and would give me something to read. It is also gamelit and a VRMMO, both things I like. But then it's not that great. Yes I know it's not about raiding or fighting monsters. But it's pretty much a smut story, with bad dialogue. It's like the author wanted to make a romcon anime series, but didn't want to animate it, so made it a light novel instead.

Unashamed King of Weeb Trash

This is, without a doubt, the most well done piece of weeby, wish-fulfillment fiction I have had the pleasure to read. You might actually forget the story is either of those things as it glides along. I usually don't give perfect scores because "there are no perfect storblah blah blah", but I'm arbitrarily throwing that sentiment out the window, just like I'm arbitrarily deciding reasons to give each category five stars after I've already done so.

Style: character driven slice of life that is, shockingly, driven forward with well developed characters. The story seamlessly blends from humor to convincing drama, weaving in the occasional bit of action and tech to keep the setting relevant. I love it.

Story: Pretty flexible on this since it is essentially slice of life. Characters have goals, and they move to meet those goals while we readers enjoy living vicariously through them. Some won't like the lax adherence to "the main plot (lol)", but for those of you tired of "OP MC tromps through fantasy land, collects all teh waifu, becomes god by transmuting the philosopher's stone and tossing the lance of longinus at the demon god", this is a beautiful change of pace.

Grammar: Absolutely zero issue. There's maybe one or two typos a chapter, and they get corrected quickly. The prose is well above par for RRL, in fact, so this is also a nice refresher if you're tired of broken english. No offense to you writters practicing english with your stories; it's damn super fucken amazing that you can not only speak, but write, in more than one language, but reading some of your works takes a non-zero amount of effort, so it's nice to not have to do that sometimes.

Characters: You've got your tsundere, yandere, kuudere, dande- wait, no, this is a review, not karaoke. There is in fact a tsundere though, as well as a kuudere, but don't worry! These characters aren't just flat tropes. No, the tropes actually feel more like afterthoughts that organically sprouted from fleshed out character seeds. Further, there are compassionate friends and raging assholes, sometimes in the same character! Every individual feels like, well, an individual, and it's lovely. Just about the only thing I could think to maybe complain about would be Oleander's presence as Camp Gay, but because the rest of the story flows around it so well, I had to look back and squint my eyes to see it as something undesireable.

All that said, here's a list of traits that directly oppose this story:

  • Dislike of the Slice of Life genre
  • Vehement dislike of harems no matter their execution
  • Those who don't know the terms: Tsundere, yandere, kuudere, onii-chan, hentai, etc.
  • Those who do know the above terms and hatefully regard them as lazy translating (I feel you bro)
  • Anyone who still involves themselves with a side on the Sub v Dubs debate
  • Yaoi shippers
  • Hardcore (and maybe mediumcore) LitRPG fans who dive headfirst into the slog of numbers

If you identify with any of the above, it's a significant deal less likely that you'll enjoy this story. It's not impossible, however, and I'd encourage you to give this a try. The female leads are too adorable to just give up on without at least a modest shot. That said, you'll likely know within the first few chapters if this story is for you.

PS this is not Ace's alternate account

PPS of course, you never thought it was, right? Hahaha

PPPS It's okay to ignore all the post scripts seriously stop and don't mess with that curtain over there on the way out.

Shit lucky mc who gets harem for no reason

This is what feels to me

It goes fantasy genre too much after some point and no basis at all on a simple reality

First review that I've ever written, instead of just picking a score.                                                                                             The only thing I don't like about it is the politically correct stuff.  But it's not a major plot point or done in an aggressive, in your face, kinda way.  So it's easy to overlook.                                                                                                                               The charachters have some depth and are developing more.  I can relate to the personality of the MC.  He's not OP and has flaws that he knows he needs to work on.                                                                                                                                            The humor is right up my alleywink silly and lots of innuendo.                                                                                                        The grammar has few flaws and flows well.                                                                                                                                   I really like it and can't wait to see where the story goes.
