When the Advent began, Drew Michalik was working in a top secret facility in Washington, D.C. When all electronics simply ceased to work and blue screens appeared before him, he gained access to a mana interface and a number of crystals called xatherite. Utilizing these xatherite, he gained the ability to cast spells.  Now alone and in the dark, he must battle through the bunker turned dungeon in a desperate bid for survival. But getting out is only the first of his many problems in the changed world, as Drew struggles to survive and keep himself, and the rest of humanity, safe through the anarchy.

Advent: Red Mage is a hero's journey told in three acts. It is a system apoclypse book and will include greedy and immoral characters. Evil will be evident, and horrible decisions will be made. This is a world where the morality of the current day has no place, and some of the monsters will be human. The MC is mostly good, but is still a flawed human being. Light LitRPG elements, no harem.

Updates on Saturday and Monday.

Many must fall for a species to survive

When the Advent began everyone on Earth got the 'Begin' message. Then the power went out and society fell to shambles as the new world emerged.

I shudder to think about how much of the world has died at this point in the story, but it is totally believeable. DM Xanadu has (so far) done a great job of setting the scene, and establishing a system for magic in his version of Earth.

While I may not personally agree with some of the character choices up to this point (chapter 15) I can understand that not everything has been revealed and characters are still developing. The story is intriguing and draws you into the world of post-Advent Washington D.C.

I usually have to groan when reading some of the novels on this and other websites when it comes to the atrocious grammar and/or word choice, but this novel is excellent on both counts. The dialogue is generally believeable and concise; while the blue boxes are at times numerous, I believe that the author has taken feedback into account and written a way to streamline that for future chapters.

All in all this is a novel that has been added to my bookshelf since I first encountered it weeks ago and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for an enjoyable ride into the post-apocalypse filled with magic, orcs, magic, ghouls, magic, giant mutated animals, and magic.

Definitely worth a read and is promising!!

Verry well written so far. Minor to no grammer issues.

Interesting, suspenseful and engaging story.

Interesting and pretty unique system/magic system.

Characters are reasonable rational and relatable.

So far no info dumps, quite streamlined world/system exploration.

Definitely a cut above the average on this site. And i whole heartedly recommend giving this story a try.

Thank you author and i wish you success with this story!!

Great story, unique magic system

Great story. This is one of the good ones that i have found on RRL after Emerilia ended.

Keep up the good work.

The best thing about the story is its unique type of magic system.

Will review the story again in the future once the plot has advanced a little further.

Just binge read everything..... this is turning out to be a great webnovel.

The magic system is different and refreshing. I also enjoy how the author depicts the emotions and thinking patterns for the people caught up in this apocalyptic situation.

Impressed is what I am, I won't waste your time by really nit picking this stuff and going in depth. All in all some of the best work I've ever seen here on RRL.

If you like cool stuff read this shit, you won't regret it. Also 11/10 for hot officers chicks in the military, there's this one LT that works next door....Anyways, read it!

Time well spent at the end of the world...

Well, I'm the editor...

A grimdark story about how to function in life when the world reaches a system apocalpyse. The characters may not always make the smartest or 'right' choices, but that's what makes them real. Humans are weak, and if you want a story that deals with the dark underbelly of human nature, and yet has the hope of a brighter future, this story is for you.

The story is well planned, so there's no need to worry that it's just going to be one random tangent after another. It's a story of how to rebuild life, and the death that comes in an anarchistic world.

The system apocalpyse brings with it the litRPG elements of a magic system that is well-designed without info-dumps to bog you down.

So follow Drew's journey with us, and question what your own motives might be under the circumstances of death and destruction of all you once knew to be true.

This has it all. A novel magic system, an as yet unexplained military hierarchy, and real consequences - all written incredibly well. Keep up the good work!

Awesome take on the post-apocolyptic game world

Well fleshed out MC, and even the side characters have their own level of backstory and life.  This is all extremely well done, and I am looking forward to more work coming from the author.

This... this is pretty damn good.

It's not a particularly unique concept; a foreign power 'takes over' earth, introduces a game like system, monsters, and dungeons. Naturally, our MC is stronger than the average and his offensive capabilities vastly outpower those of his party.

So far so good. What saves this story from being run-of-the-mill cliché cancer fiction, is the refreshingly good style, almost flawless grammar and solid main character.

While the choices of the MC are certainly not always perfect, they are reasonable (from his POV) and logical. He's not stupid, and thankfully he doesn't go full harem-master either - although I must admit that the budding romance that was hinted at feels kind of forced. That cooled down in recent chapters though, so this is very much a minor complaint.

I also really enjoy the level of detail, the world is described very well, and the US navy ranking terminology does a surprisingly large part of adding to the atmosphere.

All in all, an excellent fiction so far. Sill quite short, so I don't really feel like I could do an advanced review just yet, but I am most definitely hopeful for the future.

Cheers!
